About This Skill Sprint

PC Hardware Detective introduces learners to the physical components that make a computer work. Through guided investigation of real computer hardware, learners identify common parts, discover their purpose and understand how they work together as a complete system.

Course Format

Hands-On Learning

Learners will have opportunities to examine real computer components and identify hardware covered during the course. Activities focus on recognising components, understanding their purpose and developing confidence around computer hardware.

Hardware Safety

Learners are introduced to safe handling practices, including switching equipment off before working with internal components, careful handling of computer parts and the importance of protecting hardware from static electricity and physical damage.

Who Is This Course For?

PC Hardware Detective is designed for learners aged 11–16 who are curious about computers and want to understand what is happening inside the machine. No previous hardware experience is required.

The Hardware Detective Challenge

At the end of the Skill Sprint, learners complete a practical challenge where they identify key computer components and explain the basic role each component plays in a working computer.
